If you say 'winter wonderland', I see a glittering snow landscape with mountains, large spruce trees and a clear blue sky. I smell a crunchy fire and hear reindeer bells somewhere in the distance or just deliciously nothing. I have that image with winter wonderland, but it's more...
The original song
The song 'Winter Wonderland' is a song written in 1934 by Felix Bernard and Richard Bernhard Smith. Due to its seasonal theme, it is often considered a Christmas carol in the Northern Hemisphere. Since its original recording by Richard Himber, it has been covered by over 200 different artists.
This is the 1934 original by Richard Himber.
Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park London
Winter Wonderland is nowadays also used as a name for winter events (one is a bit more successful than the other). One of the biggest spectacles is Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park London . This mega event is organized every year between mid - November and the first days of January . It is a large Christmas market and there is a special Christmas fair. Unfortunately, now in corona time, the event is canceled for the first time, but if you are ever in London around that time - and you like crowds and craziness - then this is a nice point on your to do list.
How do you make it Winter Wonderland at home?
Whether you like a mega chill crackling landscape, or prefer the funfair-Christmas madness in London, you can also make your own Winter Wonderland at home. Completely to your own taste. Here are a few practical tips:
- take ALL the Christmas stuff out of the box and hang lights everywhere
- throw a fluffy blanket over the couch with preferably some extra pillows
- create a winter scent in the house
- put this Spotify list on repeat
- plan a game afternoon with a favorite board game
- make your own eggnog
- make easy S'mores (from the microwave)
- ensure as little online time as possible (not counting Christmas movies and Spotify)
☃️ Tell me, do you have any Winter Wonderland tips?
I'd like to close with a lovely picture, who knows, maybe we'll get snow soon...
