Happiness lies in the little things. That may have already been noted in your poetry album as a little girl. A great lesson, because life becomes a lot more fun if you can enjoy it more. And that can really be from something tiny. How can you reflect more on those wonderful moments of enjoyment – even in less pleasant periods? With these 7 tips you can enjoy more. At the moment itself and also nice afterwards.
Tip 1 - Make a gratitude journal
Treat yourself to a beautiful notebook or journal and write down 3 things (or more!) that you are grateful for every evening. These could be things that went well, things that made your day unforgettable or just nice little things that happened to come your way. Such a diary can help you not to simply forget those things. It's extra fun to look through your diary again at the end of the month and relive all the good moments in your mind.
For example, use this beautiful pink gratitude journal . That makes writing down grateful things even more fun.
Tip 2 - Capture it on camera
What could be more fun than encountering lots of happy moments when scrolling through your camera roll? I try to fill my phone with cheerful snapshots of pleasant moments, mini-happiness and funny things that I have experienced. Every week I browse through my photo folders on my phone. Then it's great to see that beautiful bouquet of flowers from Monday again or the delicious lunch that I spontaneously made for myself on Wednesday. So: capture those moments.
Do you want to make it something extra special? Then buy an Instax camera . Then you will even have your favorite moments in your hands immediately in printed form. It's also very nice to give all those Polaroids a place on a garland!
Tip 3 - Really put your phone away
No matter how useful a smartphone is, that thing is not very good for enjoying the moment. If you want to focus more on the present, it helps enormously to leave your phone aside. Forget having to share your happiness with the rest of the world on Insta. Try to be in the now. Stop your phone in your jacket pocket while walking. Put it on silent if you want to enjoy a date with a friend. And don't forget to turn off your internet at night before going to bed, so you can enjoy an evening without notifications and other ping sounds. Nice and undisturbed!
Do you find it difficult to do without social media, emails and notifications? Then try our Digital Detox ! Be inspired every week for one year to do without your phone more often. It will only make your life more fun (and calmer).
Tip 4 - Take your time
Moments of enjoyment become even better if you don't have to look anxiously at your watch all the time. Schedule appointments less tightly. Make sure you don't have to go somewhere after a nice outing with your girlfriend. Take plenty of time for a walk instead of walking quickly so that you can log in just in the nick of time for your next call. Take a long shower in the evening before going to bed; not in the morning when you're just chewing your last bite of bread before work starts. If you give yourself the peace of mind to take it slowly, you will also have a much more eye for what there is to enjoy.
PS If you're going for an (extensive!) shower, try this delicious hair mask from The Body Shop . The scent is delicious!
Tip 5 - Look around you
It sounds so simple: look around and enjoy the little things around you. But it is not that obvious if you are used to focusing your eyes on the ground or keeping a good pace. During a walk, try not to let your thoughts wander to your to-do list, your phone or your worries about tomorrow. Instead, look around you very consciously. Keep your attention on the flowers that are blooming, the butterfly that flies by or your cute neighbor who is laughing while riding her bike. If you focus your gaze more outward, you will automatically spot more moments of enjoyment.
Tip 6 - Should be less, may be more
All those chores that fill our days can deprive you of a lot of pleasure. And the strange thing is that many of those things are not necessarily “necessary” at all. We often expect those things from ourselves, but to be honest, it could have been done another time. Take a critical look at what you have planned and ask yourself whether there is really a loss if you don't succeed (certainly not!). Instead, look at what you need right now. Calling someone? Taking a break? Sitting on the couch or applying masks? Don't think “It's not possible!”, but consciously allow yourself something like this. As soon as you allow yourself those moments of enjoyment, you can enjoy them more.

Tip 7 - Schedule alone time
Speaking of having a moment for yourself... Some things are best enjoyed mindfully when you experience them alone. That's why sometimes alone time is worth its weight in gold. Sometimes take time to do something alone. Walk alone, do yoga alone, go shopping alone or cook something delicious for yourself. You can then do it exactly the way you want, with all the time you need and with only attention for what you are doing now. The recipe for a moment of enjoyment!
