Happlify: de leukste shopping guide + blog van Nederland en België 💛

Although we like to pursue an offline lifestyle with Happlify, we still occasionally find something on the internet that is more than worth sharing. And especially now that we have to stay at home, the internet is not such a bad place. Moreover, you often find beautiful things there that you didn't know about. Take this mini documentary from Op-Docs - The New York Times 'Almost famous'.

In the mid-1990s, singer-songwriter Kim Hill met a young rapper who suggested they make music together. That rapper's name was will.i.am, and his group was an emerging underground hip-hop crew from Los Angeles: The Black Eyed Peas. The rest is history - or not quite...?

Kim Hill no longer felt at home with the Peas in 2000 (she explains it much better in the video itself), decided to leave the group and find her own voice. Unfortunately, that didn't get off the ground well, while The Black Eyed Peas achieved worldwide fame with mega hits such as 'I Gotta Feeling'. Hill regrets her decision because she missed what every artist dreams of.

I am happy

Yet she concludes bravely with 'I have my happy' and that is beautiful and strong and perhaps the only thing you can say afterwards in her situation. She may not have the spotlight, but she also doesn't have the sh*t that comes with it. She is happy, is the mother of a beautiful son and once made a very brave choice. Kim is the example of how to deal with disappointment in an epic way.

It's about overcoming disappointment in the most epic way

'Almost Famous' is a special Op-Docs series of short films directed by Ben Proudfoot with people who almost made history - and unfortunately just didn't. These are stories of overcoming disappointment in the most epic way, from an astronaut who never flew to a superstar who never was.
